Back by popular demand.. A holiday family portrait special!

For those of you who just need a quick family photo, I am setting up a really cute "Holiday Hug" photo day at Cast Away in Santa Rosa. The shoot should only take a quick minute, then we'll do all your post production work right on the spot so you can either order your cards or take a digital file home with you THAT DAY. Here are the cute die-cut cards that compliment the family hug that you'll so lovingly perform for the photo. You can even put a hole and a ribbon in them to make an ornament style card. (the white background you see is not part of the card- the card is cut into the shape)

The date is Sunday December 11th from 12-4. Please call to make a 20 minute appointment (707-479-5208). If there is a big demand, I will add time slots.
Cast Away is located at 111 4th st. Santa Rosa (in Railroad square) The sitting fee is $15

I don't usually do specials like this, so take advantage of the super deal. It's short lived, so be sure to do it this weekend.

If you do purchase the Groupon deal, please drop us a note even if you aren’t ready to book your session. We have some valuable information to help you plan for your photo shoot as well as an explanation of how the entire process works.

1. What type of session is included in the deal?
The groupon deal is for a portrait session for the family, just the kids, maternity, head shots, couples and family reunions. Up to six people are included in the deal. If you would like to add more people, you may do so with a $40 fee. Weddings and comercial work is not included in this speciall.

2. How long is the session?
The groupon deal is for a one hour session. If you need extra time for some reason (for example a newborn) you may add to your session. Each extra half hour is billed at $35.

3. I don't live in Santa Rosa, will you travel?
The Groupon deal is for shoots within Santa Rosa, however if you live nearby, your location could be eligible for an upgrade. Please ask for a travel fee quote.

3. How many images will I be choosing from?
Usually there are about fifty images to view and chose from after your shoot. You will be able to view a slide show as well as look at 4x6 prints at you r order session.

4. May I buy more images?
When you come in to view your images, you will be given an opportunity to purchase more prints. Groupon customers will be given special pricing as well. Click here to see the groupon information page.

5. Will I be treated as a “regular” client?
Easy answer. Yes! You will be given excellent service and our studio will be staffed to be sure you are well taken care of.

6. What should I wear?

Baby Aliyah Joy

I photographed Steve and Sathiya's engagement photos so long ago that I don't have them in digital format. Their wedding came a year later, then several years after that they came up from their home in Los Angeles for maternity shots. As you can see here, they brought little Aliyah in for a session as well. It's been an honor and a joy to watch this family grow. Aliyah couldn't have been in a better mood. (or any darn cuter, right?)

Every year it gets a little easier with these guys. It's so fun to watch these three and their older brother grow into individuals. It's a workout for us all, but we have a great time. I just wish I had a picture of Mom and Dad doing a fake karate fight to entertain them and keep them laughing in the studio.

52 year old princess

No Joke, Jyl was a 52 year old princess. This was such a sweet wedding for two lovely people who waited all their lives for the perfect match. They had an intimate celebration at the Farmhouse in Forestville.

My new motto is "don't hold back." Think of doing a family portrait sitting like you would theatre make-up. You kind of have to exagerate your feelings of love or your strong family bond in order to really portray the mood in photos. It's hard to do if you can't let go, but if let loose, you'll love the results. These guys did a great job (it helped that they were in silly moods- you can tell that even in the "serious" photo, they were about to crack up).

It may be difficult to imagine doing a photo shoot when it's raining. however, Instead of being held up by the downpours, Helen and Rocco showed me how bright rain gear and some frolicking can be great subject matter if you just accept it (and use an umbrella to cover the camera gear).

Holiday photo sitting

Sunday December 6th will a Holiday Card Special photoshoot day. Cast Away, a yarn shop in railroad square (owned by a dear friend of mine), will be having it's one year anniversary weekend. There will be all sorts of things going on in the store and I will be set up in the mezzanine with my frigid set. Bring your outerwear and favorite colorful scarfs (although we we have plenty to borrow as well). We'll even throw around some fake snow. I plan to do first come first serve shoots from 12-4. Sitting fees are $15 for one person and $25 for families. Proofs will be available to view a few days later. Your card may not be the first to get out, but it will be absolutely cool! I never get tired of photographing pregnant women. Everyone has such different ideas about what they want. It's been hard to ask the necessary questions that help me pinpoint what a pregnant woman wants from her photos, but Ms. T (pictured below), hit the nail on the head when she described what she wanted... "form" not a "portrait." It was a really fun challenge and I really like the outcome.

I photographed a great pediatric dentist and his family last week. How great is it to put your boy in a pink shirt? I'm thrilled when people think outside the box. Anyhow, if you need a dentist that is great with kids, look up Dr. Rob Oliver- I spent the whole day photographing him with his patients and saw a wonderful and caring dentist.

If all newborns were this calm my job would be easy (but maybe not quite as interesting). This little 5 day old was a champ. As long as the the heater was pointed right at her, she let me do whatever I pleased. What fun.

This little gal wasn't so sure about being disturbed from her routine of rocking with mama. It seemed every time she was at peace, I would have to poke her and move her around for a photo. This didn't make her happy. However, I managed to get some nice shots of this very sweet family.

I'll have an assistant on hand for a wild and crazy day of double trouble.

Baby's as well as Kid's are welcome. You can bring special clothing for a holiday card or just go with the simple stuff for a classic look. The base price is $145 which includes an 8x12 and 8 wallets of the same image. Unless your babies require you to be in the photo, it will be a kids only day. I Have a new Nephew!

I had Sierra come in for Pregnancy Photos which was a lot of fun. The birth was a last minute thought that she had towards the end of her 2 day labor. What a great experience. Unfortunately, it proved to be such and intimate and special time that I have decided that I won't be photographing birth's for anyone but my family.

The triplets came back yesterday for their 9 month photos. They are staying consistent with their unique personalities and making trouble for their parents and big brother. It was poor Matt's 3rd birthday and he didn't want to have much to do with the photos, but I managed to get a few good ones of him. It's really fun watching these little guys grow.

This is little Grace. Her parents were photographed during Jen's last month of pregnancy, then again I saw them when Grace was just two weeks old. Now she's developed a great silly personality- tongue always out. Once again, I'm honored to get a glimpse of a family as they grow together.

Remember the pregnant woman who got me to shoot at the beach? Well, the little one was born and is making his noisy way into the world. Newborn photo shoots are always a challenge. This little guy was no acception, with the house up to 85 degrees, he still didn't want to be away from his parents comforting arms. No poblem though, with a little patience, we managed to get some nice images.....

Documentary

This family had me do a documentary style shoot. It was really fun- Momma made a list of things she did with her babe and we reenacted it. She wanted to me to document the everyday things they do together. I'll make a book of all the images- it will be a neat thing to have as she grows up.

This lovely lady had a hard time convincing me to photograph her at the beach. The lighting can be so tricky, so I usually avoid it. Well, as you can see, the weather was really perfect and the evening light was beautiful- I just may do it willingly next time.

So Here are some examples of my Photoshoot with the Gangnaths today. They were my guinea pigs for my Holiday special that I'll be doing on November 2nd and 3rd. They were great fun and after a few chocolate pumpkins, gave me some really energetic images. If you haven't seen the flyer- this is how it goes....

For $120 you will get a 30 min photo sitting in Old Railroad Square (Santa Rosa), an 8x12 print, and 10 Chrismas cards. This is a great chance to get the family photo that I know you have all been procastinating about for a good price. The images will be posted for two weeks on a private site. You can either get the minimum (8x12 and 10 cards), or use this as an opportunity to get some Holiday shopping out of the way. Grandma's just love getting little framed pictures of their oh so adorable Grandkids.

I'm experimenting with some color as you can see. The light and colors are so nice at this time of year.
